If not you and me, then who will work to protect our Bill of Rights?

July 30th, 2008 by Bob Barr

I recently testified at a congressional hearing about the separation of powers between the legislative, executive and judicial branches of government.  Incredibly, there was a discussion about the erosion of your rights as guaranteed in the Bill of Rights.  What is incredible is that we were having the dialogue in the first place.

But, I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised.  Over the past 50 years, and certainly since 2001, there has been a steady curtailment of the rights our founding fathers fought and died for.  And all this has been happening as Congress has allowed the White House to issue uncontested executive orders and bill signing statements of all kinds slowly chipping away the bedrock that was our Bill of Rights.

I’ve created a short video that I hope you’ll watch.  Then, I hope you’ll take a moment to sign a special online petition we’ve created. We should collect thousands of these petitions to save the Bill of Rights and deliver Stop the Bill of Rights Blackoutthem to Congress - specifically the Judiciary Committee which held the hearing I mentioned a moment ago.

While the President shouldn’t be so fast to suspend our rights - even during a time of war - I hold the Congress equally accountable.  They’ve shunned their sworn duty to uphold and protect the Constitution…after all that’s where the Bill of Rights is found!

When I first considered running for President, it was with the belief that I could change the way Washington does business.  I had hoped that I could pressure other candidates and the Congress to respect their oath of office.  This petition will help.

Please watch my short video, sign the petition and then forward this information to your family and friends.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Bob Barr signature

P.S. - Another thing that will help me in this battle to defend the Bill of Rights is a contribution for my Presidential campaign.  Please consider what you can do to help, and let me know today.

Consider donating today and making a pledge to donate on August 5th at http://www.barrbomb.com

In addition to restoring the Bill of Rights, Bob will also ‘Axe the Tax’ - help us support Bob on the 147th anniversary of the first American Income tax by donating to the Bob Barr 2008 Campaign.

We need to get this campaign going strong with our monetary support. Time and time again they have shown that they are here to give us a real choice on November 4th!

“Gun Owners of America” give scores to all Senators and Congressmen according to their voting records on 2nd Amedement issues. OBama and McCain both score a big F. Sadly the NRA will lead you to believe that McCain is a big Supporter of the 2nd Amendment. I ask all fellow NRA Members to back Bob Barr a fellow NRA Member and a Board Member of the NRA and let NRA HQ know that you will not support anti 2nd Amendment Candidate John McCain.

If you haven’t done so already, go to:

    http://www.kucinich.us

and sign the petition demanding impeachment hearings. Bob Barr’s testimony to the House Judiciary committee was a powerful voice imploring Congress to do their constitutional duty!

While you’re at it, write to Rasmussen and Gallup and ask them to include Bob Barr in their daily tracking polls:

  6. Raymond Says:

Why does the Barr campaign want all contributers to be 18 or older, thats not the law. I’m 16 years old and I want to donate to the Barr campaign but I don’t think I can because the donation form says that you must be 18.

  7. Cade Thacker Says:

    Hi Raymond,
I was curious about your question so I went and did some quick research. I would think the answer to your question is just to call the campaign and donate over the phone, and the reason why is that if you are under 18, there are additional questions you need an answer.

    Take a look at:

    http://www.fec.gov/pdf/candgui.pdf

(All of these reference the same page:)
The literal page number is page 34
    The printed page number 24
    Chapter 4 Section 11

On the right column titled “11. Contributions from Minors”

    Hope that helps…
